GALA and Demos

Gathering of Animated Lifelike Agents (GALA) Demo and Video festival

GALA, Gathering of Animated Lifelike Agents, is an annual festival to showcase the latest Animated Lifelike Agents created by university students, academic or industrial research groups. The goals of GALA are manifold:

  • To provide a forum to present and evaluate the state-of-the-art in the technology of virtual humans and innovative applications;
  • To disseminate research, by establishing an ever evolving GALA Gallery (a repository at a permanent web location) of virtual humans for study and re-use;
  • To stimulate students to work on virtual humans.

An international jury will select entries for the GALA Gallery. The presentation of the best entries and announcement of the awards will take place at the GALA Final, which is coupled with a prestigious conference each year. This year the GALA Final will take place at the 12th International Conference on Intelligent Virtual Agents - IVA 2012, September, in Santa Cruz, CA

The GALA event is primarily a video showcase of "short" projects involving animated lifelike agents (under one of the topics of the main conference). The main submission is a video, with an optional short paper. It is open to students and industry as well as academic institutions.

Researchers are also encouraged to submit demos, which will feature particular applications of Intelligent Virtual Agents, as well as tools for their development. The submission should include a short paper explaining the main contributions of the demo, and a small video illustrating the demo to be done at IVA.

Poster board will be available for you to aid in your presentation, if needed.
